Airborne Technologies has equipped Rega’s two AW109SP helicopters with its Airborne LINX system.

Swiss air-rescue organisation Rega’s helicopters have been equipped with necessary mounts to assemble a Wescam camera system on a movable lifting device outside the helicopter, as well as an advanced operator workstation inside the cabin.

The development of an external camera lift, mounted on the left hand-side of the helicopter, eliminates impaired downward visibility due to the landing gear. Now, Rega’s Wescam MX-15 in its extended position on the lift enables unobstructed 360° view.

The operator workstation provides real-time information displayed on two large 21-inch monitors, which support split-screen functions, infrared imagery and moving map information simultaneously. These features can also be controlled via a touchscreen for increased situational awareness.

The helicopters are currently deployed for SAR operations in Switzerland’s high mountain regions.
